Dear St. Peter the Apostle school community members,
My name is Susan Eccleshall, and I’m extremely happy to join the staff of St. Peter the Apostle as
the new Principal.
I’m very passionate about education and I look forward to partnering with you to provide our
students with an engaging and high-quality elementary school experience that meets their social,
physical, emotional and spiritual needs.
Prior to entering the field of education, I developed leadership skills while working in the
hospitality industry, spending over 20 years in Hotel and Food and Beverage Management. Since
joining the Simcoe Muskoka Catholic District School Board in 2005, I have served in a variety of
teaching and educational leadership roles - some of which included classroom teacher, Math
Lead, Science Lead, Special Education Resource Teacher, and K-8 Vice-Principal and Principal. I
have been very involved in Eco-schools, Social Justice Teams, and Healthy Schools Teams.
I believe that great learning is authentic learning, and that every student can learn. To that end, I
will be working closely with all staff members to create learning opportunities that are engaging,
relevant and differentiated according to student needs. In order to do this, I will be providing
teachers with positive support and access to professional development, and we will be reaching
out to parents for support with academic and behavioural concerns. We will be asking for
students to direct and take responsibility for their own learning, and to develop problem-solving
skills while they are in the safe environment of elementary school.
It is important to me that we are all working together as a team for the success and well-being of
the children.
