Dear Parry Sound Grade 7 & 8 Community,
I have received an email from a parent in our Grade 8 community expressing concerns around the rescheduling of and changes to our Grade 8 camping trip. It is my understanding that many parents have questions or concerns about changes to the Grade 8 camping experience.
I would like to take this opportunity to provide an explanation as to why we have opted to make changes to the Grade 8 camping experience. As a result of the work-to-rule situation in the fall of 2015, St. Peter the Apostle did not participate in the traditional fall camping experience for Grade 8 students. Instead we organized a trip later that spring in conjunction with some of the sister elementary schools within the Simcoe Muskoka Catholic District School Board (SMCDSB).
This new camping experience was a great success and so we have decided to continue this as an annual tradition. The new camping experience involves the Catholic elementary schools in Bracebridge and Huntsville as well as high school students from St. Dominic Catholic Secondary School. We are working in partnership with other schools within the SMCDSB to collectively provide our students with a fun, interactive and productive experience as part of our larger faith community. In addition to being a well-organized and fun trip last year, we also found it to be a worthwhile spiritual event that benefited our students who continue on their faith-filled learning journey. The dates have been confirmed for this trip, and it will take place October 24 & 25. More information will be coming out to parents shortly.
Once again this year, we will also be offering the Grade 7 and 8 Quebec trip. We are planning a parent information night on September 20th, where parents and students will be provided more information about both of the exciting opportunities offered to our students this year. I will be sending home more information about the Quebec trip, the Parry Sound/Muskoka Catholic elementary camping trip as well as the parent information night within the next couple of days.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for your support in building our community. I also look forward to many other occasions where we can join together to support our students, families and community.
Yours in faith,
Mrs. Janis Pender
Principal
